In addition to caring for dogs and cats, kennel assistant may also find themselves in contact with other pets. General duties include keeping cages and dog runs clean and sanitized; walking, feeding and picking up after the animals; and reporting on the animal's condition to its owner. The kennel assistant may be put in charge of the bathing, nail trimming of animals as well as playgroups, and dog walks. Kennel assistants may also be expected to help with other duties, such as front office help which may include answering phones and checking customers in and out.
